Your attorneys and staff are probably already using AI tools without approval. This is shadow AI, and in law firms it puts client confidentiality and POPIA compliance at risk. We help you find it, govern it and replace it with safe, approved tools. As a result, your firm gets the benefits of AI without the risk.

Why shadow AI is a risk for South African law firms
Client information is a law firm’s most valuable asset. When staff paste it into public AI tools, the firm loses control of where it goes. This can breach client confidentiality and POPIA. South African courts have also criticised practitioners for submitting fake, AI-generated case citations.
Yet according to a 2025 Thomson Reuters report, only 30% of law firms have a specific AI policy. Meanwhile, the Law Society of South Africa has been reviewing proposed ethics guidelines for generative AI. So now is the right time to act.
Frequently asked questions
A shadow AI audit reviews your network activity, browser extensions and software use. We also survey staff, because most people will tell you what they use if you ask.
A ban rarely works on its own, because staff simply use AI on their personal devices. Instead, give people approved tools and clear rules.
Not automatically. Sharing client information with an external AI tool may put confidentiality and privilege at risk. So firms need clear rules on what can be entered.
